Dennis O’Grady Limited was started in the back room of one of the ‘locals’. After acquiring another local accountant’s business in the late 80s and a brief change of office we moved into 7 Oates Street, Stokes Valley in the early 90s. Since that time we have continued to grow steadily through good reputation and specialising in Property Investing and Trust Services.

Dennis – Rest In Peace
Dennis was the owner and founder and the ‘grey matter’ of Dennis O’Grady Ltd.
As an accountant Dennis often had great insights and as he took the hands off the tools he focused more on supporting his clients with a wealth of experience across a wide variety of industry sectors. With a genuine understanding of what it took to build a successful business, Dennis’s razor sharp wit and dry sense of humour made him a pleasure to work with. His extensive experience also ensured the advice and recommendations he provided were both accurate and relevant.
Since establishing the company in 1994, Dennis grew his business to a small team of highly competent accounting professionals.
One of Dennis’s main personal interests involved property investment. From early beginnings in 1976 with the purchase of his first property, he grew his portfolio substantially. A popular figure in the local community Dennis was also an active member of Rotary for over 30 years. They provided a Guard of Honour at his funeral in August 2023.
A strong advocate of a healthy work/life balance, Dennis’s passions outside his business lay in two areas only, and when asked, he simply remarked; “fast cars and good friends!”
Shawn
Now running the show, not that anything has really changed for our clients...
While away in Australia “getting his wings” and training up as an accountant, Shawn came to his senses, leaving a promising position in a large firm to return home to the office he grew up in.
Specialising in business optimisation and advice, Shawn is always keen to work things for the best overall outcome. A Xero Certified Advisor for over ten years, he enjoys working with clients to ensure Xero works as smoothly as possible, so he will often be involved in the setup and training.
Shawn has also taken a keen interest in Trust Law. After receiving initial training from Dennis, he then took a ‘deep dive’ in the background of the Trust Act 2019. This gave him the knowledge to be able to recommend the right business structure to protect client’s assets and ensure compliance, while being as tax effective as possible.
Unlike Dennis with his passion for fast cars, Shawn prefers the tranquillity of the outdoors and while he has stepped down from volunteering himself he supports his children who have now taken over leadership roles and sit on national committees for Scouts.
Unfortunately, with Dennis’s passing, Shawn has a new understanding of what work/life balance really means, he does the work so you can have a life.
Annette
Taking care of Compliance...
Annette, has had many years assisting in the preparation of the books for a local small business and Trust management. She has brought a fresh point of view to the company after joining the team in 2023.
In the short time Annette has been with the team she has grown to be a competent team member actively gaining new skills. She is currently supporting many of our small business and property investors with annual compliance.
Annette has a passion for sport and as an active member (and coach) of many local sports teams, she has been involved in supporting many of the local youth.
Cathy
Watching the Details...
As Shawn’s wife Cathy keeps the administrative side in line. Her core role is to ensure all the background things happen seamlessly in the office, allowing Annette and Shawn to focus on your numbers.
Janine
Say no more...
Please do not be offended if you have been contacted by Janine, she is a vital part of our team and has only one job, following you up if the cheque gets lost in the post.
